Special Thanks:

The Sadsbury Township Historical Society was active until around the time of COVID. Many of the Society’s dedicated volunteers are no longer with us, but I hope they would be pleased to see this website. One of their greatest contributions is the many hours they devoted to producing the Sadsbury Township Tri-Centennial 1682-1982 booklet.

Much of what is included in that booklet is what would be classified as “oral history”: it includes many fascinating details and anecdotes about individuals, farms, and businesses in Sadsbury Township history that are probably not written down anywhere else.  Those unique details add color to the historical facts that can be documented from written sources. The booklet also includes a map of the township showing the locations of many historical properties described in the main text.

This booklet is a labor of love and scholarship from the Sadsbury Township Historical Society that can be viewed here:

About this Website

Sadsbury Township was founded in 1717, making it one of the older townships in Chester County.

This website hopes to connect residents with the people, places, and moments that have shaped the township’s identity.

We share Sadsbury Township’s history but also provide perspective on its place in larger events in Chester County and Pennsylvania.

Through this exploration, we seek to preserve and illuminate the heritage of our township for generations to come.
